There are many wrong assumptions about internet marketing and many of them are held by affiliate marketers. Finally, you can learn what affiliate marketing is really about.

One story refers to the idea that you only need to promote one affiliate program to make good money. It is a mistake to put all your eggs in only one basket. Similarly, just depending on one affiliate program won’t take you far. You need to test different affiliate programs and products to find one that performs well. By having your earnings spread out over a number of networks you reduce the risk of losing everything if your account gets shut down on by any affiliate system. You can also check which affiliate program offers you the best return on investment. True, there are quite a few affiliate networks that are not worth the work due to other problems. Once you work with a variety of affiliate programs you will come to know which ones are worth the effort and which aren’t. The first step you should take when trying to find a good affiliate network to join is to speak to current members and ask them what they think of it. You will have to uncover both the cons as well as the advantages. Carefully research before you actually go with an affiliate product. You need to work with as many affiliate networks as possible because your goal is to make as much money as you can. A common but mistaken idea regarding affiliate marketing is that it can be used as a get rich quick scheme. Lots of affiliate marketers make this mistake because they aren’t aware of all the variables affiliate marketing involves. Yes, there are affiliate marketers who have made it big and even earned millions from their efforts. On the other hand, this wasn’t an immediate result. The difference is that they didn’t make their riches fast but they did act quickly and consistently. Affiliate marketing demands the same level of seriousness as any other business. If you treat it like a game or a part time project, then you shouldn’t expect to see it grow. It needs to be given your whole focus and concentration, just like a real business.

It’s also a myth that affiliate marketing is extremely difficult for an average person. You don’t need to learn any special skills or possess any extraordinary talents to succeed in affiliate marketing. It can be a satisfying experience for the affiliate and it can give you a great income without actually having to go through the regular troubles of a job. In other words, affiliate marketing can be taken up by absolutely anybody, as long as they have a will to work and move forward. It does take perseverance and patience to create a level of success, but it’s worth it. You’ll find plenty of regular people from average walks of life and no special skills succeeding in making big profits with affiliate marketing. As long as you have the desire to succeed and the patience to get it running, you can accomplish anything.

If you are serious about your success as an affiliate then the first thing you need to do is to dispel any myths that will hold you back.

Affiliate marketing has the lowest barrier to entry in the field of internet marketing, maybe that’s why there are so many misconceptions. No more silly myths, let’s take a look at the truth for a change.

Myth one: it is hard work or takes an expert to run websites and blogs; please, don’t believe it. All you have to do is update your site and readers with new content once in awhile, and that only takes a few minutes. For example, your blog is based on a dog training eBook you are currently promoting. So, you wrote a few articles or made a few posts for your blog and you are sending traffic to it; you won’t have to worry about adding new content unless the product’s author decides to make changes to it. See how it works; this really isn’t hard work. Of course, driving traffic to your site is a little more involved and you will have to put most of your efforts into that. Site maintenance and traffic getting are two entirely different things. The next myth is that you can make huge sums of money without investing a substantial amount of money. You cannot get something for nothing in this world and the same applies to affiliate marketing so don’t fall for this silly myth. The good thing is that you don’t need an incredibly large amount of money to invest because you can start small and then scale things up as you revenue increases. So many people are stuck on getting free traffic or not wanting to pay for outsourced work that they are severely limiting their potential; on the other hand, super affiliates find a winning campaign and throw as much money as they can into it and see huge returns. Whereas when you choose the free methods to drive traffic, such as video marketing, article marketing, etc. you won’t be able to take it to that high level. Take the time to become an expert at a reliable paid traffic source and you too could become a super affiliate. Paid traffic can supply you with all of the targeted traffic you’ve ever dreamed of.

Another common but baseless idea is the fact that affiliate promotions are nothing but spam. In fact, promoting products through affiliate marketing is an excellent way to generate some money. The reason this myth cropped up was because there are affiliates who indulge into spamming activities, bringing bad name to the industry. However, the affiliate system itself and the networks that run it are honest and pay out thousands in commissions every month. Quite the opposite, in fact, the networks try to limit the spam as much and possible and shut down the accounts of spammers. The networks are totally opposed to spam and implement a variety of anti-spam measures in order to stop it.

New affiliates fall for a lot of nonsense because they don’t know any better. This is the main reason why you should test ideas yourself instead of relying on others for guidance.
As one of their members put it in their forum: “this e-mail was the final nail in the coffin.” The e-mail was sent out earlier today and the first reactions from the IM Report Card community are starting to show, starting with disbelief. Being the last in a serious of events continually weakening their relationship with the user base, this “final nail” is likely to cause a number of IMRC members to close their accounts and/or stop participating, e.g. adding new reviews.

IM Report Card’s new and revised system still allows members to earn credits for posting reviews, suggesting new IM websites and vote on other members reviews, with main difference being that they are no longer eligible to cash out their credits as money. Instead, they are required to exchange the credits into digital IM products.

I had a feeling “something was up” when I had suggested a couple of websites in accordance with the F.A.Q., and they were still “Pending” a week and a half later. I have lost my earnings with IM Report Card, although I do not regret the reviews I posted on their website, based on personal experience with the products. If my reviews are of any help to those looking for honest reviews on a particular product or service, it was time well spent.

I repeat: as of February 22, 2010, you are no longer eligible to earn real money with IM Report Card, only credits that can be exchanged into digital Internet Marketing products. Even though some members suggest they (IM Report Card) will put a credit price tag on freebie products and sell it as something with monetary value, those are pure speculations, and it would be wise to take such rumors with a grain of salt.

IM Report Card has another issue, though: communication; they sent out an e-mail update on their recent Trial Pay Now offer, but forgot to mention that they had removed the referral earnings. This was silently added to their website F.A.Q., and members who found it shared the update in the support forum. A couple of days later came the message about IM Report Card no longer paying their members.

According to IMRC, it was numerous frauds that ultimately led to this, although their members question why other social communities such as MyLot, that has been online for five years, still running and paying their members despite having to combat fraud attempts all the time, are doing just fine.

Either way, I wrote this as a head’s up for those who haven’t read their e-mail or in other ways are not aware of the recent changes in their system. IM Report Card is a decent user review site, but without the incentives it will be interesting to see how many new user reviews are added in the coming days and weeks.
